Hello, I have a USB device that I cannot get to work on my laptop. It works on a desktop and a friend's computer so I know the device works. The device is a Fretlight guitar made by Optek. They said I probably need to update the USB drivers on my Sony Vaio PCG-V505AX. Looking at my friend's computer this is what it says for driver information:

    HID Compliant Device Properties

    Driver Tab
    HID Compliant device

    Driver Provider: Microsoft
    Driver Date: 7-1-2001
    Driver Version: 5.1.2600.2180
    Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Publisher.

Driver Details: No driver files are required or have been loaded for this device.

ANY help would be appreciated and your $10 recommended donation will be doubled. :)

IMPORTANT NOTES: USB optical mice can cause a conflict with the Fretlight. If you are having problems please try disconnecting your USB optical mouse, replacing it with a conventional mouse, then try to get your Fretlight going.

Please make sure your Fretlight is plugged into a USB port which resides on the root hub of your computer. Usually, that is one of the USB ports on the BACK of most computers. USB ports on the front usually share a port with another USB connector.

Also, what version of Windows do you use?

    XP Pro.

I know all the info about the mouse issue. No mouse is being used, the mouse that had been used by the previous computer owner was removed with the add/remove programs utility and all other trace deleted as far as I can tell. I''m guessing the driver that my friend''s computer shows is running the guitar was removed as well and not allowing the device to work. Any suggestions on where to get that driver would be appreciated. :)

    Thanks again. :)

What you may have to do is look at the properties of the device while plugged into a computer it works on. Do this in the Device Manager. Once in the properties, look at the driver file details. Write down all of the file names and then unplug the device. Do a search for the file names and make a copy of the files and put them on a disk. Use them to update the drivers on your laptop.

That means the device is using a generic Microsft driver instead of it''s own driver. You need to force it to use your driver by using the driver update feature and manually selecting the driver.
